Then there’s the Indian Premier League. Smith stood to pocket $2.4 million for six weeks’ work with the Rajasthan Royals. Not only have the Royals already dumped Smith as captain, but national cricket boards have the right to deny issuing Smith with a no-objection certificate — a strict requirement for eligibility in the IPL.
If Smith is banned by Cricket Australia for 12 months, and Sutherland certainly flagged that “severe sanctions” were in the pipeline, then he may have no qualms with denying his passage into the IPL and along with it a massive pay cheque. But that decision may also be left to the BCCI.
Time will tell.
Time will tell.
