Chris Lynn, D'Arcy Short and Andrew Tye are among the Australians to have failed to make their mark early in the new Indian Premier League season. Australia's better performers have been ex-internationals Shane Watson and Dan Christian across the first four games. Chennai opener Watson scored just 16 with the bat but took 2-29 at 7.25, including the wicket of Rohit Sharma, in the Super Kings' one-wicket win over Mumbai in game one on Saturday. Million-dollar paceman Pat Cummins, coming off the four-Test series in South Africa, and Brisbane Heat star Ben Cutting were absent for the Indians.
Experienced all-rounder Christian claimed 1-12 in the Delhi Daredevils' loss to Kings XI Punjab, for whom paceman Tye returned figures of 0-38 off his four overs. Australian T20 regular Tye, who has starred for the Perth Scorchers over past few Big Bash League seasons, cost Kings XI $1.4 million in the IPL auction. Marcus Stoinis hit an unbeaten 22 off 15 balls coming in at No.6 for Kings XI, while his fellow Victorians Aaron Finch (Kings) and Glenn Maxwell (Delhi) missed the match for Finch's wedding. Injury-prone Brisbane Heat star Lynn, who went for $1.86m, was out for five off eight balls atop the order for Kolkata, caught at cover off Chris Woakes, in the four-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore.
