Friends and family lifted Starc to high jump gold

It was the cheers of his friends and family that lifted Brandon Starc to claim Australia’s first high jump gold in more than two decades. The brother of Aussie test cricketer Mitchell Starc this morning told 9NEWS “words can’t describe” standing in the stadium and having a home crowd cheering for him. “I’ve never experienced something like that before,” he said. “I’m just extremely proud of him. To see how much work he does behind the scenes, and it’s not all ups, it’s a long road,” she said. “All the athletes, they push their bodies to the line and it’s for little moments like this and to get to pretty much the pinnacle of this event at the Commonwealth Games is just unreal.” The couple told 9NEWS they weren’t the type to party and would instead celebrate with a movie and “lots of food, maybe a bit of chocolate”.
